GREENE COUNTY, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) – A second mosquito pool in Greene County has tested positive for West Nile Virus, public health officials released Thursday.
The positive results came from a mosquito pool in August in the Five Points area of Fairborn. The area has since been treated, authorities say. “Staff has been trapping mosquitoes since May and we will continue to do so until October, concentrating on human population centers,” said Jeff Webb, Director of Environmental Health Services.
It’s recommended to protect yourself from mosquitoes by:
- Using mosquito repellent
- Wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts when outside between dusk and dawn
- Wear light-colored clothing, which will attract fewer mosquitoes
- Eliminate any standing water
- Install screens or repair existing ones on your home
