Arizona Gov. Ducey to Pick Ex-Sen. Kyl to Fill John McCain’s Seat


Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey picked former Sen. Jon Kyl to fill the Senate seat that opened up with the death of Sen. John McCain, according a spokesman for the governor.

The pick of Mr. Kyl, a former senator widely respected within the GOP, helps minimize tensions within Arizona’s Republican party, which has splintered into two factions: one more strongly aligned with President Trump and one more traditionally Republican. Both wings had pushed Mr. Ducey to select a replacement who would reflect their own perspective.
