The Academy has made a wise decision by not selecting Jimmy Kimmel to host the Oscars for a third year in a row and has instead selected actor/comedian Kevin Hart to emcee the show in 2019.
On Tuesday, Hart announced that he has graciously accepted the Academy’s invitation to host Hollywood’s most glamorous awards show.
“For years I have been asked if I would ever Host the Oscars and my answer was always the same…I said that it would be the opportunity of a lifetime for me as a comedian and that it will happen when it’s suppose to,” Hart said on Instagram. “I am so happy to say that the day has finally come for me to host the Oscars.”
Hart went on to say that he will make this year’s Oscars a “special one,” which will be a tough task, considering that last year’s was the lowest-rated one in the show’s history.
“I am blown away simply because this has been a goal on my list for a long time,” Hart said. “To be able to join the legendary list of host that have graced that stage is unbelievable. I know my mom is smiling from ear to ear right now. I want to thank my family/friends/fans for supporting me & riding with me all this time. I will be sure to make this year’s Oscars a special one. I appreciate the @TheAcademy for the opportunity. Now it’s time to rise to the occasion.”
Kevin Hart has seen his star power rise in recent years, reaching a zenith when he starred alongside Dwayne Johnson in the “Jumanji” reboot.
According to Vanity Fair, the Academy’s move to pick the more young and edgy Hart signifies they may have learned their lesson after Jimmy Kimmel’s dismal performance last year, during which he used the entire opening monologue to bash President Trump and make political statements about #MeToo.
Though Hart has largely avoided bashing President Trump in his stand-up routines, he broke that policy earlier this year while hosting the MTV Video Music Awards alongside comedienne Tiffany Hadish. From The Daily Wire’s James Barrett:
Joined by his co-comedian Tiffany Haddish, Hart quickly worked in some tired Trump-bashing into his introductory remarks, as noted by Mediaite.
‘You never know what’s going to happen at the VMAs,’ said a noticeably nervous Hart. ‘Beefs pop off, bad language, people run to the bathroom and send out crazy tweets. It’s basically like a typical day in the White House.’
To make sure that his audience didn’t miss that he was ripping the president, Hart yelled, ‘In your face, Trump! Suck it!’
That wasn’t the only jab the comedian took at Trump. He also worked in a racially charged one about the national anthem protests.
Nevertheless, Hart certainly is no friend to political correctness and has even taken his own share of heat from social justice warriors for not living according to their preferred script. After hosting a “Cowboys and Indians”-themed birthday party for his son recently, SJWs denounced him as insensitive; Hart said the outrage showed “just how stupid our world is becoming.”
“The reason why I’m even bringing this dumb s**t up is because it shows just how stupid our world is becoming with opinions,” Hart said on SiriusXM. “People are at a point of an all-time high, to throw racial judgment into the development of a 1-year-old’s birthday party where the theme is Cowboys and Indians, and it’s based around the outfits that are given to these young kids.”
